DOES ISLAM ELEVATE WOMEN?
Muslims say it does. They say the Koran gives women more rights than any other religion or culture.
They claim Islam gave them the right to obtain an education, to own property, the right to work outside of the home, to keep
whatever money they make, the right to refuse
marriage, the right to custody of their children, and the right to express their opinions.
The fact is that western societies grant
these rights to women, but many Islamic societies do not. The reason Islamic societies deny these rights to women is not due
to cultural peculiarities; it is because the Koran never mentions any of these as rights for women. In fact, it actually limits most
of them. Women are clearly second class citizens in the Islamic religion, as per the words of the Koran.
Wives are TILTH and to be used at husband’s discretion:
- Your
wives are as a tilth for you, so approach your tilth when or how you will. (2:223)
Women are posessions:
- Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet: Women and sons, heaped up hoards of gold
and silver, horses branded, wealth of cattle and well tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world’s life. ( 3:14)
Menstruating women are dirty:
- They enquire from thee as to consorting with their wives
during their monthly courses. Tell them: They are a hurt and a pollution, so keep away from women
during their monthly courses and do not
consort with them until they are clean. (2:222)
Touch a woman before prayers, wash again:
- O ye who believe! Draw not near unto prayer when ye are drunken,
till ye know that which ye utter, nor when ye are polluted, save when journeying upon the road, till ye have bathed. And if
ye be ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from the closet, or ye
have touched women, and ye find not water, then go to high clean soil and rub your faces and your hands (therewith).
Lo! Allah is Benign, Forgiving. (4:43)
- O you who believe! when you rise up to prayer, wash your faces and your hands as far
as the elbows, and wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles; and if you are under an obligation to perform a total ablution,
then wash (yourselves) and if you are sick or on a journey, or one of you come from the privy, or you
have touched the women, and you cannot find water, betake yourselves to pure earth and wipe your faces and your hands
therewith, Allah does not desire to put on you any difficulty, but He wishes to purify you and that He may complete His favor
on you, so that you may be grateful. (5:6)
Raping captive women: It
is not considered rape since they are "property." It is fine to rape them when holding them for ransom, and if they
become pregnant by their captors before being returned, it is Allah's will. This is according to Mohammad:
- We went out with Allah's Messenger
on the expedition to the Bi'l-Mustaliq and took captive some excellent Arab women. And we desired
them, for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, but at the same time we also desired ransom for them. So
we decided to have sexual intercourse with them but by observing 'azl (withdrawing the male sexual organ before
emission of semen to avoid conception).
- But we said: We are doing an act wheras Allah's Messenger is amongst us;
why not ask him? So we asked Allah's Messenger and he said: It does not matter if you do not do
it, for every soul that is to be born up to the Day of Resurrection will be born.

The Koran and Muslims detest pagans. Pagans cannot enter the mosque because they are considered unclean.
Women cannot enter the mosque when they are menstruating because they are considered unclean:
- O ye who believe! Truly the Pagans
are unclean; so let them not, after this year
of theirs, approach the Sacred Mosque (9:28)
MEN EXCEL OVER
WOMEN
The Koran states men excel over women,
therefore men can chastise or beat women for disobedience. Two different translators are cited here. Both say the
same thing: - Men are
the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more than the other, and because they support
them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in the husband'sabsence what Allah
would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them, then refuse to share
their beds, and lastly beat them ; but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance):
For Allah is Most High. (4:34).
- Men
are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property;
the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear
desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a
way against them; surely Allah is High, Great. (4:34)
UNBECOMING CONDUCT
The rules for men's conduct in an Islamic society are pretty simple:
·
Direct the believing
men to restrain their looks and to guard their senses. That is purer for them. Surely, Allah is well aware of that which they
do. (24:30)
The rules for women's conduct in an Islamic society are much more elaborate:
·
Direct the believing
women to restrain their looks and to guard their senses -----and not to disclose any part of their beauty or their adornments,
save that which is apparent thereof. They should draw their
headcoverings across their bosoms, and should not disclose
any part of their beauty or their adornments save to their husband or to their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands or
their sons or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters,
or gentlewomen, or their maidservants, or such attendants who have no desire for women, or such children who have no knowledge of the
relationship between the sexes; nor should they strike their feet on the ground in such manner as to disclose their ornaments
which they ought not to disclose. Turn ye to Allah all together, o believers, that you may prosper (24:31)
Women found guilty of unbecoming
conduct get a death sentence:
· Confront those of your women who are guilty of
unbecoming conduct with four witnesses. If they bear witness, then confine the women to their houses till
death over takes them or Allah opens a way for them.(4:15)
Men found guilty of unbecoming conduct have a chance to repent and will be left alone:
·
Punish such of your
men who are guilty of unbecoming conduct, but if they should repent and amend, then leave them alone.(4:16)
Women found to have "unbecoming
conduct" can have their dowries or inheritance taken away:
O ye who believe, it is not lawful for you to inherit from women against their will, nor should you hold
them back wrongfully that you may take away from them part of that which you may have given them; their being confined to
their houses for unbecoming conduct is a matter apart. (4:19)
COVERING The covering of Muslim women is so unclear that Muslims disagree on this constantly. Some
state that they must cover all over, some say just their heads, others say it's optional. The problem seems to lie
in the arabic word for the garment mentioned in the Koran: jalabeeb. Since nobody knows what that actually looked like, Muslim women are victims of whatever their culture
chooses it to look like. Regardless, the jilbab is worn today. Google jilbab to see what it looks like. Muslim women must
wear jilbab, as per the Koran.
Also the translations are ambiguous. Some state they must only cover when abroad. Others
state they must cover all the time. All translations state the same reason for Muslim women to be covered in some way. It
is to be distinguished as a Muslimah so as not to be molested.
Evidently, non Muslim women are allowed to be molested:
- O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast
their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not
molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (33:59)
- O Prophet! say to your wives and your daughters
and the women of the believers that they let down upon them their over-garments; this will be more proper, that they may be
known, and thus they will not be given trouble; and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. (33:59)
- O Prophet, direct
they wives and daughters and the women of the believers that they should pull down their outer cloaks from their heads over
their faces. This will make it possible for them to be distinguished so that they will not be molested. (33: 59)
But lo and
behold! Mohammad himself DID DECREE covering for women, and not just their heads, as seen in this hadith:
· Asma, daughter of AbuBakr, entered upon the Apostle of Allah wearing
thin clothes. The Apostle of Allah turned his attention from her. He said: "O Asma, when a woman reaches the age of menstruation,
it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this," and
he pointed to her face and hands. (Dawud B32 N4092)
INHERITANCE
& WITNESS
Inheritance (Women get half of Men):
- Allah commands you concerning your children as follows: the share of a
male is as much as the share of two females:but if there are only females, two or more, they shall have two thirds of what
the deceased should leave and if there is only one, she shall have one half. His parents shall have, each of them, a sixth
of the inheritance, if he have a child, but if he have no child and his parents be his heirs, then his mother shall have a
third; but if he have brothers and sisters then his mother shall have a sixth. (4:11)
- You shall have half of what your wives leave, if they have no child; but if they have a child, then you shall have a fourth of that which they leave. (4:12)
Inheritance Repeated:
- If
a man dies leaving no child and he has a consanguine sister, she shall have half of what he leaves; and he shall inherit her
if she leaves no child. But if there be two or more sisters, consanguine and uterine, they shall have two thirds of what he
leaves. If the heirs be brothers and sisters, the male shall have as much as the portion of two females. (4:176)
Witnesses are one man or 2 women (women forget easily:)
- Procure two witnesses from among your men; and if two men be not available, then one
man and two women, of such as you like as witnesses, so that if either of the two women should be in danger of forgetting,
the other may refresh her memory.(2:282)
A Husband can accuse his wife by swearing
an oath to Allah. She can avert punishment by swearing also, but there is no verse allowing her to accuse him of anything.
- As for those who accuse their wives but have no witnesses except themselves; let the testimony
of one of them be four testimonies, (swearing) by Allah that he is of those who speak the truth; And yet a fifth,
invoking the curse of Allah on him if he is of those who lie. But it would avert the punishment from the wife, if she bears
witness four times with an oath By Allah, that her husband is telling a lie; And the fifth time that the wrath
of Allah be on her if he is one of the truthful. (24:6-9)
Women are not allowed to witness wills:
- O ye who believe,
the best way of providing proof, at the time of making a will, when one of you is approaching his end, is that the witnesses
should be two just men from among you, but if you should be on a journey when the calamity of death overtakes you and witness
from among you should not be available, then two just men who are not from among you. (5:106)
MOHAMMAD'S WIVES
His wives cannot marry after
his death:
- Nor is it right
for you that ye should annoy allah’s messenger, or that ye should marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such
a thing is in allah’s sight an enormity. (33:53)
They must
be not tempt other men:
·
O wives of the prophet!
Ye are not like any of the other women: If ye do fear allah, be not too complaisant of speech, lest one in whose heart is
a disease should be moved with desire: but speak ye a speech that is just. (33:32)
They must
stay in thier homes (like the Taliban ordered):
- And stay quietly in your houses, and make not a dazzling display, like that of the former times of ignorance:
and establish regular prayer, and give regular charity, and obey allah and his messenger. And allah only wishes to remove
all abomination from you.(33:33)
They must pray at home too:
- And recite what is rehearsed to you in your homes, of the signs of allah and his wisdom(33:34)
They get double punishment:
- Wives
of the Prophet, if any of you should act in a manner incompatible with the highest standard of piety, her punishment
will be doubled.(33:30)
- Wives of the Prophet, if any of you were guilty of evident unseemly conduct, the punishment would be
doubled to her, and that is easy for allah. (33:30)
They must wear a veil or cover:
- And when ye ask his wives for anything ye want ask them
from before a veil. That makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs. (33:53)
